WHAT'S THIS?

Having been immersed in memoir writing for many months, I decided to write a small poem every day for a year to keep my poetic hand in. I've posted them to Instagram and facebook as written – where, to my amazement, people love them – but on this blog they are sometimes subject to later rewriting.

A sister witch phones …

A sister witch phones.

Someone was attacked in Sydney

for wearing a Star of David.

She reminds me that pentacles

are often mistaken for that Star,

instead of our five-pointed

symbol of the Goddess.

She has taken hers off.

I remind myself there are other

Pagan tokens we can wear:

spirals, triskelions, likenesses

of dragons … I resolve

to look for a serpent ring –

though I already have both

a scarab and a Celtic knot,

one on each forefinger.
