WHAT'S THIS?

Having been immersed in memoir writing for many months, I decided to write a small poem every day for a year to keep my poetic hand in. I've posted them to Instagram and facebook as written – where, to my amazement, people love them – but on this blog they are sometimes subject to later rewriting.

Age: a time ...

Age: a time to revisit

books that have delighted me,

movies I’ve loved,

my host of dear memories —

old friends all

as well as those souls,

animal and human,

present or past, here or gone,

whose lives continue to fill my life …

and certain trees, mountains, rivers ...

I'm sharing this with Poets and Storytellers United for Friday Writings #73: Time Affects All Things. I didn't write this especially for the prompt, but it does at least  indicate how the passage of time can affect one's relationship to some things.

This turned out to be nice, Rosemary. I like your "revisiting list", it reminds me of the prayer the little kid prayed, bless the striped kitty cat, bless the . . . etc. I should just use your list, but i sure wouldn't have time for all those.

Oh, I don't know that prayer! Sounds nice.
Some of the revisiting can be done in thought.

(But yes, I can imagine you might have so many friends and wonderful memories that even in thought could take up a lot of time!)

It is time to revisit. I never thought it would happen but now I can watch old movies again and I can't remember them so they are like new movies!

Yes, those who have gone ahead live as ghosts within us. They helped shape us. Some we need to overcome and others we welcome more warmly, including past pets.

Dear Rosemary, more and more often I find myself revisiting so many wonderful memories, times in my life. I simply sit and concentrate on them, like reliving the minutes and hours. And then, I come back to the present, embrace it. Love your poem.

I think it suits the prompt beautifully. Little side trips to the past can be a comfort to our present, and help shape our future.

Yes, I agree it suits the prompt perfectly. I too am revisiting old memories. Books, photos. Today i am looking at my old stamp albums, seeing myself as a child and young man. :)

I'm afraid my own stamp collecting didn't last past childhood. I wasn't very good at it really. But it was kind of educational.
