WHAT'S THIS?

Having been immersed in memoir writing for many months, I decided to write a small poem every day for a year to keep my poetic hand in. I've posted them to Instagram and facebook as written – where, to my amazement, people love them – but on this blog they are sometimes subject to later rewriting.

Summer flowers ...

summer flowers

finally arrive

as summer ends –

sliding into autumn

with a burst of warmth

Sharing with Poets and Storytellers United at Friday Writings #67, where the prompt is "love letters to wild flowers". I had in mind garden flowers in this piece, but still ...

I like the fresh feel of how this was written. We certainly do need those late bloomers when the chill sets in.

"... finally arrive" is two words, but they say so much. The anticipation, delays, the sigh of contentment when they finally arrive.

    sliding into autumn

An episode most welcomed when not outwardly expected to appear. Love it Rosemary, short and sweet!

I like your tribute to the summer flowers. We have one, it didn't even blossom last year, a Lily of the Nile. Usually, it has large blue-lavendish flower, I hope it will this year again.

The burst of warmth lingers, and I love it. We are freezing at the moment, but spring is coming. In the meantime, I shall enjoy blooming warmth vicariously through your words.

I always love the sight of the late bloomers. It feels like we're both conspiring to hold on to the last bit of warmth before the cold truly sets in.

I like how the poem flows so seamlessly, from line to line. Maybe the gogyoshi is designed for that. :)

It is claimed it has no rules apart from being five lines, but I am finding it a very easy form to work with, as it does tend to fall into a nice flow.

That's nice to know – only it has turned into a heatwave! Very steamy.
