WHAT'S THIS?

Having been immersed in memoir writing for many months, I decided to write a small poem every day for a year to keep my poetic hand in. I've posted them to Instagram and facebook as written – where, to my amazement, people love them – but on this blog they are sometimes subject to later rewriting.

I turned off …

I turned off the world,

stayed in pyjamas,

watched telly, read

a forgettable novel …

so far no repercussions.

Down with ...

Down with a virus

I miss her funeral,

not altogether sorry

to skip this latest.

All day at home

I think of her anyway,

and this evening

text her son instead.

She shows me ...

She shows me coasters

and cheeseboards

she’s painted with flowers,

then sealed. I gasp

at their beauty

She’s created a business

selling them, taking orders.

It grows by word of mouth.

She is my neighbour.

She’s 13.

I cut back ...

I cut back the geraniums

burgeoning across the path

— sadly.
